A Tapestry of Poems by Marietta Pereira : Book Review

Title of the Book: A Tapestry of Poems
Author: Marietta Pereira
Genre: Poetry

Poems are like whispered secrets of the soul, woven with words instead of thread. They can challenge our perspectives, ask questions, and spark new ideas. Poems can find beauty in the ordinary, making us appreciate the world around us in a fresh light. Love, loss, joy, anger, wonder; poems can be a powerful outlet for emotions that might be hard to express in other forms. They can evoke strong emotions, provoke new ways of thinking, and deepen our connection with the world around us.

About the Book

A Tapestry of Poems’ by Marietta Pereira features a diverse range of poems, exploring themes of nostalgia, longing, dreams, love, and more. Some poems offer hope, while others evoke feelings of sadness.

The book opens with a poem about our school days. This one is the most relatable of all. We can all visualize each and every line written in that poem in our minds, from the fun of sports day to standing in line for the morning assembly. The poem brings so much nostalgia.

“Fight” and “Lock” are two short poems I’d love for my child to learn and one day recite at school. The most important thing for me is that he internalizes their messages. In a world filled with so much hatred and greed, where people often fight over trivial matters, these poems offer valuable lessons. If he can internalize those lessons, it would bring me immense happiness.

I really liked ‘Freedom’, it voices the strong desires of people who want to carve their own path, free from societal pressure. We all yearn for that freedom, but many are forced to bury their true selves and stifle their individuality, which desperately yearns to break free.

‘Waiting for a Letter’ is one poem that I can’t relate to. The older generation will surely relate, though. We have only heard of the stories from our parents, how they had to wait 10-15 days for their letters to arrive. We can’t experience that excitement of the wait and anticipation in today’s world of real-time messaging.

There are many sweet, simple, and small poems with three lines. They’re so heartfelt and easy to share. Oh, and I’m going to use one of them for my husband.

Love quote

Night  and day

I love you

In every way.

Many poems in the book explore the sunny side of life, like the vibrant tree thriving in sunlight, the vast sunflower field, and the fresh earth revitalized by rain. These images not only showcase the breathtaking beauty of nature but also remind us of the joy and inspiration found in the natural world.

Some of the poems are very lighthearted, while some leave a deep imprint on the reader’s mind.

The book offers several key takeaways, including important messages about the benefits of emotional expression. One such message encourages letting out your tears as a way to improve your well-being.

Another one gives us hope, that a new beginning is on its way. So, we shouldn’t feel disappointed.

Encouraging readers to rise above their difficulties and challenges, these poems bloom and lift their spirits. Anyone can connect to the wide range of emotions expressed, reflecting on experiences they have lived through.

It also explores the idea of keeping our dreams alive, for in achieving them lies our ultimate happiness.

As a firm believer of god and good karma, my favorite line has to be:

‘On the last day, The Master will separate the good fish from the algae.’

The author has written poems on simple things, emphasizing how our perspective shapes their beauty, just like the beauty of a flower or a tree.

The book speaks of everything from love, longing, dreams, and nature, and I love how the entire book feels written from the heart. Author Marietta has poured her heart into her poems.

This book is perfect for anyone who prefers poetry that’s simple, direct, and full of deep insight, without needing to decipher complex meanings. It’s also ideal for those new to poetry. So go grab your copy and enjoy!
